As of 2021, 67% of tech employees identified as Caucasian, compared to just 13% Asian American, 9% African American, and 8% Latinx American. These numbers reveal the underrepresentation of minorities in an industry that should be leading the charge for inclusion. Gender disparities are equally stark. While women make up 50% of the college-educated workforce, they account for only 36% of the tech sector and an even smaller 27% of the broader STEM workforce. Within executive roles, the gender gap widens further, with 71% of these positions held by men and a striking 83.3% occupied by Caucasians.

Schools should adopt inclusive curricula that encourage underrepresented students to explore tech careers, while companies can sponsor outreach programs and provide resources like scholarships and coding camps.
